"A war with no civility only gives rise to massacres. That's why wars that occured on earth in the past were so tragic."

In His Defense

So far, I've sort of made Treize seem like a scheming, manipulative, controlling and self-serving jerk.  ^^;;  I really didn't mean to do this, so I would like to use this page to tell you what I really think of the guy.

The reason I say I've made him out to be a bad guy is because the things I've said so far imply that Treize knew what he was doing to Une, and that he did these things on purpose just to serve his own wants.  But I don't believe this at all.  I believe that he knew what he was doing, that he said and did things to Une that he knew would have a certain effect on her, but he certainly did not do this things out of any selfish desires.  I believe that all he was trying to do was to help Une, and to show her the world as he saw it.  He wanted her to see that the world was not as cruel and cold as it seemed, and that the ideals of those like Relena could still be realized, despite the tragedies they experienced.  He wanted what every human being wants—someone to understand him.

Treize is a very noble character... very very noble.  His heart is strong, and it is clear that he understands where his beliefs are.  In his heart, I believe Treize was against war.  Not against it in a way that he would say "it shouldn't exist" but against it in a way that he would say "it's a shame and it saddens me, but I realize that war is necessary."  This is evident in the fact that he makes it a point to know the name of every soldier of his who has ever died in battle.  Treize's nobility stems from his gentle heart; he understands that war is necessary, and that understanding alone is painful.  For to understand that war is necessary is to understand that people must die, sometimes needlessly.  Believe it or not, but most people have trouble accepting that some day everyone dies.  So when a person does realize this—I mean really understands—it creates a feeling of emptiness inside their heart.  Treize, I believe, is a sensitive character, and he is sensitive to the suffering of others.  Because of this, it hurts him to know that this suffering is necessary.

What I'm trying to say is that Treize is far from a cold, self-serving jerk.  Yes, he was responsible for the deaths of others, but we must realize that death is necessary—even in a simple "cartoon."  Maybe I'm taking the show too seriously, but I really don't think so.

"What makes everything crazy, is probably the pain of love. Innocent hearts in this world where there are no solutions will suffer more and more as times go on. For the human beings who feel love because of it will feel frustrated because of their helplessness, and as a result will be crushed by those sadness and worries. But all you brave human beings, fight on! From now on, let me love and admire you too."
