This page is about Une's image song Brightness and Darkness. For starters, if you've never heard this song you will probably want to find a way to do that. From my experience, the best method of achieving that is to visit YouTube. As of the creation of this page, I have found two videos that work. The first is located at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6bhBW4TkTA and has the best sound quality. The second video's sound quality is not as good, but I am posting it here in case the first link ceases to exist: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFI838jNfJI. There is so much that can be said about this song, I'm not quite sure where to start. It is powerful, beautiful, stunning, and engaging; in essence, it's everything that a hardcore fan of Une like me could wish for in an image song. The lyrics reflect Une for who she is; the vocals are melt-in-your-mind delicious; the music itself is hard and crashing yet soft and timid. In my opinion, this song is as perfect as one could get to a musical interpretation of who Une is. The music itself, the lyrics, Sayuri's enchanting voice—all of it combines so perfectly.
The Lyrics
Looking at the lyrics, it's pretty obvious what this song is about. Even if there may be mistakes in the translation, the general feel for the song is still right there. So it's no surprise to find lyrics like "If it is for the sake of your dream, I would destroy everything" or "Until my life ends, In love with you; Do anything for you." And how true that is! As I mentioned above, this song is a true reflection of who Une basically is: the woman in love with Treize Khushrenada. This song merely re-emphasizes the impact and effect that Treize has upon Une; sort of like reassuring us that, yes, she really did do everything for him out of love and devotion. The structure of the music really highlights all of these concepts, and it really does do the lyrics (and Une) justice. The Vocals As I said earlier, the vocals of this song are melt-in-your-mind delicious. This song is sung by Sayuri, Une's voice actress, and I can't rant enough about how wonderful she is and how well she portrays Une through this song. She successfully captures the essence of Une; from the sweet, soft rendition of Lady Une to the more powerful and stronger voice of Colonel Une, this is such a beautiful piece of art!! Sayuri has a simply magnificent voice, and somehow she manages to capture the spirit of Une, making this 2-dimensional character seem even more real with every beat of the song.
